Debono Group is a diversified group of companies employing over 200 people. The HR team manages every aspect of the employee lifecycle – from induction to exit. While payroll is outsourced, the group’s HR department oversees all other HR functions, offering complete 360° support to employees.
Why Debono Group Searched for a New HR System
Before implementing Talexio, Debono Group used another HR system that included time and attendance, payroll and employee profiles. However, it didn’t provide the level of detail or functionality the organisation needed.
Leave booked for future dates wasn’t automatically deducted, which often led to end-of-year adjustments and unpaid leave issues. Reporting was another major limitation – data was difficult to extract, and the team couldn’t generate insights to back up discussions or support decision-making.
Debono Group needed a user-friendly solution that could provide accurate data, easy reporting, and visibility across all HR areas, a platform that could support both daily tasks and strategic planning.
The Challenges Before Talexio
Before adopting Talexio, Debono Group faced several challenges that limited efficiency and visibility:

- Generating audit reports could take up to a week to complete.
- HR lacked access to real-time insights such as sick leave trends, overtime data and absenteeism patterns.

These challenges slowed down operations and made it harder to provide data-backed input to leadership and other departments.
Choosing Talexio
When exploring HR systems, Debono Group prioritised three things: ease of use, reliable reporting and strong local support. Talexio stood out because it delivered on all three.
The HR team also valued that Talexio is a Maltese company, their account of 200+ employees would not be considered small, and they would have direct access to responsive support whenever needed. That confidence proved right.
Although there were initial concerns about Talexio being a newer solution, the group’s experience with the onboarding process quickly built trust. The support provided even before the official implementation reinforced their decision.
Implementation and Roll-out
Debono Group’s HR department adapted to Talexio quickly. Employees received training and easily learned how to use the system. The HR lead took ownership of internal training and continues to onboard new members of the HR team.
Managers also received guidance on time and attendance approvals, with follow-up sessions provided where needed. Overall, adoption was smooth, and the process proved straightforward for everyone involved.
The HR department frequently uses Talexio’s Help Centre and chat support, finding both highly practical and responsive.
Results and Impact
Talexio has transformed how Debono Group manages HR. Reports that once took days are now generated instantly. Meetings with management are currently supported by real-time data and insights, allowing the HR team to make informed, data-driven decisions.
The most valuable tools in daily use include:
- Centralised employee data that is easy to update and reference.
- Reports and insights that can be generated quickly for internal and external requests.
- The leave module which gives employees clear visibility of their balances and helps HR maintain accuracy throughout the year.
Efficiency has increased dramatically. For example, one audit report that previously took nearly a week to compile is now available at the click of a button.
The group also issues regular reports after each payroll run: weekly overtime summaries, end-of-year overtime totals and insights into sick leave and other patterns, which wasn’t possible previously. Data requests from Finance and other departments, including those related to tenders, can now be fulfilled within minutes.
User Experience and Feedback
Debono Group’s HR department consists of four professionals, one of whom has worked with several HR systems over the years. She describes Talexio as the most practical and reliable platform she has used.
The team finds the system straightforward and effective, with all information centralised and easy to retrieve. Managers occasionally require refresher sessions, but overall, feedback has been positive.
Employees use Talexio for leave bookings, document access and announcements. They appreciate being able to view their profiles, leave balances and key information at any time, creating a sense of transparency and independence.

It’s very user-friendly, the after-sales support is excellent, and as an HR system, it’s one of the best I’ve used in my career.
Looking Ahead
Debono Group is finalising the rollout of the Performance Management module. The setup process has taken time, but the team has already seen improvements following their feedback. The goal is to complete implementation by November so that this year’s reviews can be carried out entirely on Talexio.
